DALLAS, Texas -- September 19, 2007 -- Atmos Energy Corporation's (NYSE: ATO) Mid-Tex Division today filed for a rate adjustment with the company's 439 incorporated cities and approximately 1.5 million customers in its service territory, including the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. "Atmos Energy's rates are among the lowest of any natural gas utility in Texas; however, as with most businesses, we continue to face increased operating costs," said John Paris, Atmos Energy's president of the Mid-Tex Division. "This rate adjustment should allow us to recover the prudent costs of operating, maintaining and improving the system." As part of the filing, Atmos Energy has proposed a rate structure that would encourage energy efficiency and stabilization of rates, which would more closely align the interests of customers and the company. The company is requesting a total increase of $51.9 million, which would increase the average residential bill by $1.57 per month, solely for the delivery of natural gas to customer's homes. By law, Atmos Energy cannot mark up or profit from the actual cost of natural gas included on customers' bills. To view the complete filing, click here (.pdf).
