DALLAS, Texas -- October 2, 2007 -- Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) said today it has selected Richard Gius as vice president and chief information officer. Gius previously worked for Cardinal Health, Inc., where he had been CIO and senior vice president of information technology for Allegiance Healthcare, the company's medical products and services group, and senior vice president of enterprise solutions for its shared services IT organization.

"We are pleased to have Rich as a member of the Atmos Energy Leadership Team," said Robert W. Best, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Atmos Energy Corporation. "The knowledge that he brings to Atmos will be critical in enhancing our technology platforms and in helping us to better serve our customers, communities and employees."

Gius, 50, succeeds Leslie H. Duncan, who retired as Atmos Energy's CIO in 2006.

Gius spent more than two decades at Cardinal Health, rising through various positions of increasing responsibility. In 2003, he was named by Computerworld magazine as a Premier 100 IT Leader, recognizing IT leaders who have applied information technology in effective, creative and innovative ways to advance their organization's strategy. He also was honored as a 1999 national finalist for the Computerworld Smithsonian Business Technology Award.

Under Gius' leadership, Cardinal Health's ValueLink business application was recognized in 1997 by CIO magazine's Application Hall of Fame as one of the 12 most influential business applications of the past decade.

Before joining Cardinal Health, he held positions in both marketing and technology at Boise Cascade Corporation from 1979 to 1982.

Gius earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He is a member of the board of directors of the Health Industry Business Communications Council, an ANSI-accredited standards development organization for information technology standards in the healthcare industry, and of MediClick, Inc., a provider of materials management and financial ASP-based solutions for hospitals and large integrated delivery networks.
