Atmos Energy Corporation Named to the FORTUNE 500

DALLAS, Texas -- April 12, 2006 -- Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE:ATO) was named to this year's FORTUNE 500 rankings for the first time. In the new list, Atmos Energy ranks No. 430 based on revenues of $4.9 billion, moving up 150 places from the previous year.

In 2004, Atmos Energy purchased TXU Gas and nearly doubled the company's size, adding almost 1.5 million utility customers. Atmos Energy now has about 3.2 million utility customers throughout its operations in 12 states.

Other key Atmos Energy rankings from the FORTUNE 500:

• Sixth in growth in revenues, with a 42 percent annual increase over five years,
• No. 12 in growth in revenue, with a 70 percent increase year over year,
• No. 28 out of 53 companies in the Utilities: Gas and Electric category,
• 49th out of 56 companies based in Texas. Texas is now the top state for companies in the FORTUNE 500, surpassing New York for the first time.
