DALLAS, Texas -- April 27, 2007 -- Marc Chapman, director of construction and maintenance operations for Atmos Energy (NYSE: ATO) of Dallas, Texas, today was named the winner of the American Gas Association's (AGA) 2007 Distribution Achievement Award. He was honored at the AGA annual Operations Conference, held in Grapevine, Texas, from April 24-26, 2007.

Sponsored by the American Meter Company, this award is presented each year to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the science and art of natural gas distribution.

Chapman was recognized for his invention of the Vapor Extraction Unit (VEU). The VEU device provides substantially improved safety operations in locating and mitigating leakages in underground natural gas pipes.

“The VEU has proven to save a tremendous amount of time,” said Chapman, director of operations for Atmos Energy’s Mid-Tex Division. “We can now clear the soil in days where using the old tube-type extraction machine might take a month. The faster work allows Atmos Energy crews to focus efforts on repairing leaks, not looking for them.”

Chapman is responsible for construction and maintenance operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, which serves more than one million customers. He began his career with Lone Star Gas and has been with the utility for 28 years.

Chapman’s other positions at the company have included customer service tech, construction worker, backhoe operator, crew leader, construction supervisor, general supervisor, inspection and compliance manager, operations manager, process owner, code compliance manager, region manager and director.

Raised in Greenville, Chapman resides in Kaufman, Texas.
