Atmos Energy's CEO Joins Dallas Mayor in
Launching Mayor's 2008 Summer Reading Program

DALLAS, Texas – May 27, 2008 – Atmos Energy Corporation and several other businesses helped Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert launch the 2008 Mayor's Summer Reading Program this morning at the Dallas Central Library.

Atmos Energy Corporation Chairman, President and Chief Executive Robert W. Best, along with Fox 4 Anchorman Baron James and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert each read a book to about 45 elementary students. Atmos Energy, the "Platinum Star Leader," was the major sponsor among several businesses supporting the launch.

"The Mayor's Summer Reading Program is a good way to ensure success in life for those children who participate in this worthwhile effort," said Best. "If we can instill a passion for reading at a young age, it will help the student throughout his or her entire life."

Atmos Energy is involved in many community activities including the support of education. Last March, the company was the public entity sponsor for the Dallas Public Library's second bookmobile to bring books to students in their neighborhoods. In April, Atmos Energy completed the frontage changes for Madison High School as part of Mayor Leppert's Project Front Door Program with the Dallas Independent School District. In addition to financial support, 47 Atmos Energy employees donated more than 900 hours of labor to the project. Atmos Energy has also partnered with the Dallas Public Library and is the premier sponsor for all children's programming associated with the new Bookmarks Children's Library at NorthPark Mall.
