JACKSON, Missouri – September 13, 2007 – Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) has introduced three energy conservation and efficiency programs to assist its Missouri customers lower natural gas utility bills and cut energy consumption.

“Natural gas benefits the environment more than any other major fuel source,” said Kevin Akers, president of Atmos Energy’s Kentucky/Mid-States Division, “and encouraging its wise use can save our customers money and conserve our country’s natural resources.”

The conservation programs were developed cooperatively with the Missouri Public Service Commission and approved in March 2007 in Atmos Energy’s last rate filing, Akers said.

“The changes to our Missouri tariff that were approved by the Public Service Commission effectively ‘decoupled’ our revenues from the amount of gas our customers use,” he said. “This innovative approach to gas utility regulation by Missouri officials enabled Atmos Energy to implement new programs to help our customers save both energy and money.”

These programs will provide:

  • Rebates for qualified or eligible residential and commercial customers of $250 for replacing an old furnace or heating equipment with a new high-efficiency natural gas Energy Star furnace or $450 for a specific Energy Star combination heating and water heating unit.
  • Weatherization assistance, through programs administered by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, for homes of low-income customers who qualify.
  • Educational materials for schools in Atmos Energy’s Missouri service area to help teach students from kindergarten to 12th grade and their families about energy conservation.

Information about the programs is being mailed with the gas company’s September billing statements. A company Web site, www.atmosenergy.com/Missouri_ECE, also explains the programs and how to apply for the high-efficiency heating equipment rebates and home weatherization assistance. Only Atmos Energy’s Missouri customers are eligible to apply.
