811 Bike Makes Pit Stop at Atmos Energy
Nationwide tour encourages customers to Call 811
Before You Dig
DALLAS, Texas – (September 26, 2012) –From television appearances on American Chopper to governmental ceremonies, the 811 Bike has made its rounds across the country with its next stop planned Friday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Atmos Energy Headquarters in Dallas, TX.
“We are honored to have the customized 811 Bike on display outside our Lincoln Center offices off LBJ Freeway,” said John McDill, Atmos Energy vice president of pipeline safety. “The 811 Bike represents what we preach to our customers, contractors and employees each day. You must call 811 before you dig, it’s the law.”
Since the establishment of this national number, the natural gas industry and Atmos Energy have seen a reduction in the number of excavation damages. While much has been accomplished since the inception of Call 811 five years ago, there is still work to do, according to McDill.
“Excavation is still a leading cause of damage to our industry’s infrastructure and continuing to reduce excavation damages requires the collective work of many,” said McDill.
Since the creation of 811, there have been many unique ways used to promote its use. One of those involves the creation of a customized motorcycle known as the 811 Bike.
The 811 Bike was designed and built by Paul Jr. Designs and was featured on two episodes of American Chopper. The motorcycle is the promotional property of One Call Concepts, the company that operates Lone Star 811 in Texas.
