This reduction results from the continuing decline in wholesale natural gas costs. “Atmos Energy is pleased to pass on this reduction in gas costs,” said Pat Childers, vice president of rates and regulatory affairs for Atmos Energy. “Atmos Energy makes no profit on the cost of the gas it purchases for customers, and so we pass any increases or decreases on to consumers,” she said. Childers added that the gas costs reflected on December residential gas bills in the Kirksville district will be 39.58 percent lower than the summer gas costs and 46.90 percent lower than gas costs just one year ago. Childers also noted that weather will continue to have an impact on the cost of natural gas throughout the winter months. She added, “Weather conditions affect not only how much gas customers use, but also the market price of natural gas.” Consumers can help manage their energy bills by enrolling in budget billing, using energy more efficiently, and applying now for energy assistance if needed.
