Huntington Appoints Kelsheimer Interim
Northern Ohio Region President; Klimas Resigns

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- February 2, 2005 -- Huntington Bancshares, Incorporated (Nasdaq: HBAN) today announced that Jerry Kelsheimer, executive vice president and regional commercial division manager, will lead the northern Ohio region on an interim basis upon the resignation of Daniel Klimas, effective February 4, 2005. The search for a new Northern Ohio president will begin immediately.

"The region has delivered strong performance and we have an excellent plan for growth in the region. I am confident in Jerry's leadership abilities," said Vice Chairman Ronald C. Baldwin. "We appreciate all of Dan's efforts to help Huntington expand our Northern Ohio franchise, and we wish him well."

Kelsheimer, joined Huntington's commercial team in Cincinnati in 1996. He has been leading the northern Ohio team since 2002, responsible for sales and delivery of all commercial financial services for business clients, including management of corporate and commercial real estate lending. Kelsheimer began his banking career at Comerica Bank in Detroit.

A graduate of Indiana University Kelly School of Business, Kelsheimer currently is a member of the Arthritis Foundation of Northern Ohio board of directors, board of directors of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Tri-C Foundation board of trustees, board of directors of the Great Lakes Science Center, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation board of directors, and Cleveland State University's Nance College of Business Administration visiting committee. He and his family live in Avon Lake, Ohio.
