COLUMBUS, Ohio -- March 8, 2005 --
Huntington Bancshares, Inc. (Nasdaq: HBAN) today announced that it has appointed Melinda Ackerman as executive vice president and director of Human Resources, effective February 22, 2005. In this role she is responsible for all aspects of employee benefits, compensation, staffing, talent development and policy.

"Melinda has broad, hands-on HR experience that will be a great asset to Huntington," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas E. Hoaglin. "Additionally, she already demonstrates an enthusiasm for Huntington's vision and values, which is crucial as our culture continues to evolve. We are excited to have her as part of the Huntington management team."

Ackerman brings nearly 30 years of human resources experience, most recently serving as senior vice president in charge of Human Resources for American Electric Power (AEP) in Columbus, Ohio. There she was responsible for all HR-related issues, leading a team of 265 professionals in an 11 state service territory. A graduate of Morehead State University, Ackerman also previously served as vice president of HR services and operations, managing director of Human Resources, Director of HR Planning, Director of Public Affairs, Manager of Compensation and Benefits as well as an HR Generalist at AEP.
